Look, Indie games are by far the most neglected section of xbox live. I know this as I have been testing and reviewing these games for over a now, and have seen the inner workings of the xna community. Indie Developers are very limited in what they can do when compared to xbla or retail games and far too often this will result in bugs, or limiting/diminishing an otherwise fantastic piece of work. The most common examples i've seen of this are xbox live related and include not being able to have leaderboards, and players not being able to search for matches outside their gamerzone.
I don't think it needs to be this way so i suggest that top selling (let's say 10k sales or more) indie developers receive more tools that more closely mirror those given to XBLA developers. At the very very least they should be able to include achievements, possibly 80 gamerscore maximum, and offer avatar items, which heck they could even group under one store called "indie games" like they do with the saves. I feel none of this would pose any financial threat to Microsoft and if they start to put Indie games on a pedestal now it can only grow like it always should have.
In conclusion I've grown tired with the neglect XBLIG has been shown by the first party, with recent games earning millions (for example FortressCraft which reached a million without an ounce of support from MS) I feel that it has proved itself to be at least one step down from XBLA instead of 20.
